Norman George Haegerl

Norman George Haegerl Age 101, died on Monday July 31. 2023 at Wisconsin Veterans Home in Chippewa Falls. He was born May 31. 1922 in Butternut, WI. The youngest son of Joseph and Mary (Bruch) Haegerl. After service in the Marines in WWII, he traveled to the west and worked in construction. Due to his father’s sudden illness, Norman returned home to help run the family farm. He never married until September 6, 1969, when he met and married the love of his life, Myra (Smart) Setterman. Shortly after their marriage they moved back to Butternut to work on the Haegerl homestead. Norman was a very hard worker, spending countless hours working the farm and logging. After a serious accident, Norman and Myra moved off of the farm and spent their retired years living in Glidden. Norman was a faithful man, that shared his love for God, his country and his family with anyone that visited him. Norman had a great love of the outdoors. During his retirement, he found his peaceful times planting and working with flowers and his vegetable garden. He was a craftsman, designing his own wood projects that he loved to share with his family. Upon his marriage to Myra, Norman inherited a large family, whom he loved and treated as his own. He enjoyed family gatherings where he could spend time visiting with the everyone and having his special time with the grandchildren. Norman is survived by his children; Debora (Allen) Thimm, Michael (Brenda) Setterman, Vicki (Cliff) Myszka, Susan (Michael) Schnautz, Linda Liebelt, Barbara (Donald) Michalski, Myrna Hilgart, and Eugene (Gloria) Setterman; 32 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Marilyn Gottardo of Chicago, IL. Norman was preceded in death by his father and mother; his wife Myra, his brothers, Walter. Leander, Joseph L. (Mutz), John and two of his sisters, Lorraine Haegerl and Helen Radlinger; his children, Carol (Setterman) Murphy, Raymond Setterman, Roger Setterman; grandchildren, Robert Murphy, Wren Sprague and Dayton Murphy. His sons-in-law, Don Murphy, Robert Hilgart and Don Liebelt. His daughter-in-law, Elnora Setterman Liebelt. A Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Butternut on Saturday August 5, 2023 at 11:00am. Fr. Shaji Pazhukkathara will officiate. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30am until the hour of the service. Military Honors will be held following the service under the auspices of the Butternut American Legion Post. Burial will take place at St. Cecelia Catholic Cemetery on Monday August 7, 2023 at 11:00am. Birch Street Funeral Service is assisting the family. www.birchstreetfuneralservice.com
