Ruth C. Herbst Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

It is with great sadness that the family of Ruth Herbst announce her passing on July 1, 2022 at Park Manor in Park Falls, under the care of Park Manor staff and Marshfield Hospice. Ruth was born on November 9, 1931 to Benedict and Philomena Hilgart in their home on Saunders Avenue. Her early childhood was spent with her family in a logging camp, receiving her education at various one-room schools. Upon graduation from Lincoln High School, she became the bride of Arthur Herbst on September 29, 1950. Ruth embraced her vocation as wife and mother with enthusiasm, creating a home for her family filled with creativity, friends, cousins and pets. Her home was a place where children blossomed and where happy memories still wait around every corner. Her wit and wisdom continue to enrich and guide their lives today. As their nest began to empty, Ruth went on to her next life-chapter and became employed at the Mellen Veneer Mill where she braved the snowbelt winters traveling back and forth for over seventeen years. She then retired and dove into her favorite role of grandmother. No doubt Ruth is best known today for her yard and flower garden. Inspired by her love of flowers, and brought to life by her hard work, her garden became an area showplace. Not to be outdone, her winter projects with sewing, knitting and crochet needles created countless beautiful items for family and friends. Any remaining spare time was quickly filled by Ruth’s love of books. With an ever-present and much-used Rosary in her pocket, we are comforted to know the earthly journey of Ruth has brought her to a joyous, peaceful heavenly rest. Ruth is survived by her children, Phillip (Char) Herbst of Schaumburg, Ill., Bernadine Herbst of Park Falls, and Brenda (David) Hilgart of Park Falls; grandchildren Scott Herbst of Utah, Ryan Herbst of Utah, Ross Hilgart (Haley Wegner) of Rice Lake, and Ali Lynn Hilgart (Luke Draeger) of Stevens Point; brother-in-law Ronald (Carol) Herbst of Park Falls; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur in 2012; her parents; three brothers, Donald, Harold (Bud) and Gerald Hilgart; and a baby daughter, Beverly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Church at 11 a.m. on Friday July 8, 2022 with Father Shaji and Deacon Chet Ball officiating. Burial will follow at the Nola Cemetery in Park Falls. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
