Shirley M. Christian

Shirley M. Christian age 96, of Butternut, died peacefully, surrounded by family on Sunday July 21, 2024 at Park Manor in Park Falls. She was born on March 29, 1928 in Park Falls, the daughter of Harley and Arlene (Cochran) Morgan. After graduation she moved to Marshfield where she completed her nursing training and married Raymond Deckert. Shirley began her long nursing career at St. Lukes Hospital in Milwaukee where she was the night-shift supervisor. After the death of her first husband, she and her four children moved back to Park Falls. On December 7, 1957 she married Robert Christian and together they added three more children to their family. Shirley was not only a devoted wife and loving mother, but she was also a community resource for those seeking quick medical care, advice, or just a sweet treat. She had an open-door policy and warmly welcomed all who came to her. She was a highly skilled registered nurse with over 45 years of experience in several departments, including labor and delivery, surgery, emergency room, intensive care, and ambulance. She retired from her nursing career after 40 years at Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a volunteer at the blood pressure clinic. She was an avid reader who was always mindful of the needs of others. She especially enjoyed cooking special meals for her family. Most of all, she loved to spoil them with laughter, trips, food, and her wealth of medical knowledge. She is survived by (4)children; Karlene (Ron) Stauske of Mason, Deborah (Frank) Deckert-Gerlitz of Ann Abor, Michigan, Donald (Carrie) Christian of Butternut, Thomas (Diana) Christian of Butternut, and son-in-law Jeffrey Smith of Rhinelander, (15)grandchildren, (27)great-grandchildren, (3)siblings; Dennis (Peggy) Morgan, Thomas Morgan, Sandy Morgan, and by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert Christian, children; Randy Deckert, Rex Deckert, Mary Christian-Smith, her first husband Raymond Deckert, siblings; John Morgan, Marilyn Morgan-Wartgow, Barbara Morgan, and Carol Morgan-Walker. Memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Monday August 5, 2024 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Butternut. Rev. John A. Deitz will officiate. A visitation will be held on Monday August 5, 2024 from 10:00am until the hour of the service at the church. Interment will take place at Butternut Union Cemetery.
