Richard Michael Schneider

Park Falls (Veteran) Richard Michael Schneider age 73, of Park Falls, died on Friday June 19, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 7, 1941 in Park Falls, the son of Frank and Joyce (Springer) Schneider. His early life and schooling were in Park Falls where he was a lifetime resident. Richard entered the United States National Guard in 1964 and served his country for seven years. On April 30, 1966 he married Barbara Hilgart. In 1966 he purchased Greenwood Transfer, and was the owner of the business for many years as Schneider Transfer, Inc. He also owned the Planer Mill, lumber being a lifelong passion of his. Richard was very active in the community serving on the Price County Board of Supervisors from 1985 until 2012, as Chair of the Forestry Committee from 1990-1998, as Airport Committee Vice Chairman from 1990-2008 and Chairman from 2008-2010, as Chair of the Dams Committee from 2006-2008, and the Price County Highway Committee from 1987-2012 and as Chair of the Committee from 1998-2012. Richard was also a volunteer firefighter for the Park Falls Fire Department for many years and served as Chief of the Fire Department from 1973 until 1980 during which he responded to the Park Falls Paper Mill Wood Yard Fire that took three days to extinguish. Upon retirement he enjoyed motorcycle riding and building furniture. He was a member of the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be remembered as a trustworthy friend and wise adviser to many people. Richard will be missed by his family and many in the community which he proudly served for so many years. He is survived by: his wife Barbara of Park Falls (4)daughters: Lori (David) Messerschmidt of Wausau Jeanne (David) Runge of Fairmont, Minnesota Janet (Chris) Hoffman of Park Falls Jackie Schneider of Minneapolis, Minnesota (8)grandchildren: Kayla, Brian, Mitchell, Kaleb Richard, Christopher, Cody, Jack Richard, and Samuel (1)great-granddaughter: Taylor (5)brothers & sisters: Carol Schneider of Waupaca George (Kathy) Schneider of Park Falls Gene (Ellen) Schneider of Park Falls Joyce (Glen) Scherwinski of Butternut Art (Kathleen) Schneider of Oseola and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother & sisters: Margaret Tetley, John Schneider, Janet Schneider, Raymond Schneider, and infant brother Ronald. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 24, 2015 at 11:00am from St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Park Falls. Fr. Shaji Pazhukkathara will officiate. Burial will follow at Nola Cemetery with military rites under the auspices of the Park Falls American Legion and VFW Posts. A visitation will be held on Tuesday at the church from 4:00pm until 8:00pm with a Parish Prayer Vigil at 7:00pm and on Wednesday from 10:00am until the hour of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Anthony's Catholic School would be appreciated.
