Michael William Brennan Sr.

(Veteran) Michael William Brennan Sr. Age 81 of Butternut, died on Thursday February 4, 2016 at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. He was born on June 13, 1934 in Waukegan, Illinois. The son of Michael and Kathryn (Finn) Brennan. His early life and schooling were in Waukegan, Illinois. Michael was in the United States Air Force. On June 5, 1954 he married Patricia Hundt in Hazel Crest, Illinois. The couple moved to Butternut in 1971 where they owned and operated Brennan's Green Brier for 44 years. He was a law enforcement officer for many years in Illinois and Wisconsin and retired in 1998 and became the Under Sheriff for Ashland County on February 15, 2015. He enjoyed musky fishing, camping, singing, playing softball, and watching his grandchildren play sports. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also was a member of the Immaculate Conception Knights of Columbus. He is survived by: (4)children: Michael “Mick” (Laurie) Brennan Jr. of Ashland Jim Sr. (Shari) Brennan of Butternut Joe (Brenda) Brennan of Ashland Marion (Randy) Smart of Butternut (11)grandchildren: Bobbi (Chris), Michael III (Jessica), James Jr (Chris)., Terry (Aubrey), Matthew (Karen), Nick (Nicole), Bryan (MaKayla), Joey (Arien), Brittani, Steven, & Jordan (9))great-grandchildren: Nick, Chase, Rebekah, Marcus, Cadence, Reid, Brayden, Braelyn, Briggs. And one on the way. (3)Step-granddaughters: Melissa, Angela, Joanna. (3)Step Great-grandchildren: Hailey, Logan, Carter. (2)Sisters: Kathy (Ed) Barker of Wisconsin Dells Lynn (George) Caddick of Frankfort, IL He was preceded in death by his parents. His wife Patricia in 2012. His infant son: Terrence Lee Brennan. (1)Brother: Michael James Brennan. (2)Sisters: Carol Tiberi and Connie Barker. Funeral Service will be held on Monday February 8, 2016 at 12:00 pm at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Butternut. Fr. Shaji Pazhukkathara and Deacon Bob Schienebeck will officiate. Visitation will be held on Monday February 8, 2016 at 10:00 am until the hour of service at the church. Burial will follow at St. Cecelia Cemetery in Butternut with military honors under the auspices of the Butternut Legion post. The Novitzke Funeral Home is assisting the Family.
