Lucille "Sis" Pankratz

Lucille “Sis” Evelyn Pankratz Age 87, Glidden, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2018 at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff. Lucille was born on November 9, 1930 in Peeksville. She was the second of fourteen children born to Boyd and Millie (Goellner) Griffith. On August 23, 1947 she married Raymond Pankratz in Glidden. They had two children: Pauline “Snooks” Kempf and Gary “Shakey” Pankratz. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed traveling with her husband and family, often visiting her family in Oregon. She enjoyed playing card games and always kept in touch with family over the phone. She was well known in the Glidden community for her culinary skills, community activities, and infectious laugh. She began her culinary endeavors at the age of ten, helping her grandmother at the Northwoods Inn in Glidden. She did catering, cooked at numerous restaurants, and was a cook at the Glidden school until 1990 when she retired. She was well known for her many local cuisine items including potato dumplings, German potato salad, pennies from heaven, and liver dumplings. Lucille got her GED in 1970 when her son Gary also received his high school diploma. She served on the Glidden Fair Board in the 1960's and was a member of the Glidden VFW Post for just short of 70 years. Lucille is survived by: her daughter: Pauline “Snooks” (Richard Poetter) Kempf of Glidden her daughter-in-law: Patricia Zimmerman of Glidden (3)grandchildren: Timothy Brian (Tammy) Kempf, August “Gus” Peter Pankratz, and Emma Bernice Pankratz her special cousin: James Wiedenhoeft her siblings: Bud Griffith, Toddy (Jim) Stovall, Tom Griffith, Dick Griffith, Kathy (Bill) Pettyjohn, Alan (Phyillis) Griffith, Bobby (Becky) Griffith, and Karen (Jim) Lunders. Her brother & sister in law: Betty Beuchs and Donald (Barb) Pankratz And many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her son Gary “Shakey” in 1999, her husband Ray in 2001, and siblings: Peggy Bond, Bruce Griffith, Jerry Griffith, Johnny Griffith, and infant Christine Griffith and her sister in laws: Chris Griffith and Tinker Griffith. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday January 27, 2018 at 11:00am at the Glidden VFW Post.
