Lawrence "Larry" Johnson

Lawrence “Larry” Johnson age 93 of Park Falls passed away peacefully in his sleep Thursday July 6, 2023 surrounded by loved ones. He was born December 11, 1929 the son of Mr. William Johnson and Mrs. Martha (Zoesch) Johnson in Park Falls, Wis. Larry attended school in Park Falls, Wisconsin. After graduating he served in the Korean War. While serving in the Korean War he was wounded and spent time recuperating at Walter Reed Hospital. Larry then returned home and began working at Flambeau Paper Mill where he retired after many years. Larry is survived by two children: James (Robin) Johnson of Park Falls and Sheri (Lori) Sterletske of Manitowoc. Five grandchildren Amanda, Jennifer, Ryan, Annee, Ryan and five great grandchildren. Sister-in-law Anna Mae Johnson and 2 nephews Brad and Rick. Larry is also survived by his partner of 45 years Marjorie Van Patten. Marjorie’s five children were also a big part of Larry’s life. Denise (Bob) Hoogstra, Diane (Joe) Duff, Donna (Brad) Johnson and Dale (Brenda) Van Patten. Along with ten grandchildren Jennifer, Patrick, Amy, Brandon, Brynn, Michelle, Vickie, Julie, Geena, Kristina and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harold, and Marjorie’s son Douglas Van Patten. Larry enjoyed fishing and spending time at Newman Lake, where he and Marjorie shared a home for many years. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and his fishing trips to Canada. Marjorie and Larry spent the winters at Pine Island in Florida enjoying the warm weather and company of many close friends. Larry was a proud member of the Park Falls American Legion post 182 for 67 years. He also was a member of the Greater Pine Island Elks for 23 years. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Monday July 31, 2023 at the Birch Street Funeral Service Chapel in Park Falls. Rev. Henry Boynton will officiate. Burial will follow at Nola Cemetery. Military Honors under the auspices of the Park Falls American Legion Post 182. A visitation will be held on Monday July 31, 2023 from 9:00am until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
