Janet Eileen Balzer

Janet Eileen Balzer Age 62, of Park Falls, died surrounded by her family on Friday October 4, 2019 at her home. She was born in the Chicago area on July 7, 1957, as the daughter of James and Cecile (McManigal) Hughes. She graduated high school in Oak Park, IL and earned a degree in nursing before working as an LPN at Park Manor Nursing Home in Park Falls. On March 13, 1982, she married Joseph Geoffrey Balzer. Janet performed social work in Price County for five years and then received another degree in Human Services from UW Superior. She later earned her Masters in Social Work from UW Oshkosh. She continued her social work in hospice for Howard Young Memorial Medical Center, Women’s Outreach, Suicide Prevention, and for LCO School District. She finished her career at Inclusa, based in Park Falls. As a member of the Butternut Loopers and a Girl Scout Leader, Janet enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, skiing, her horses and pet donkey, running marathons, and most of all spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by: her husband, Joseph Geoffrey of Park Falls (2)children: Elise (Matt) Balzer-Oliva of Stoughton Jim (Zoey) Balzer-Zoromski of Antigo (2)grandchildren: Myles Oliva and Henry Balzer Her mother, Cecile Hughes of Downers Grove, IL (1)sister: Katie (Rich) Reeter of Westmont, IL (4)brothers: Mike (Gloria Hurtado) Hughes of San Diego, CA Tom (Shawn) Hughes of Mount Prospect, IL Bob (Fran) Hughes of Park Ridge, IL Steven (Lesley) Hughes of Chicago, IL and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father. Funeral services will be held on Friday October 11, 2019 at 11:00am at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Fr. Shaji Pazhukkathara. A visitation will be held at the church on Thursday October 10, 2019 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm with a Prayer Vigil at 7:00pm led by Deacon Chet Ball, and on Friday from 10:00am until the hour of the service.
