Curtis R. Walker Sr.

Curtis R Walker Sr. Age 69 of Butternut, passed away peacefully at home on Friday January 26, 2024 under the care of Moments Hospice with family at his bedside. He was born on October 28, 1954, the son of Gene and Marian (Billing) Walker. Curt was a lifelong resident of Butternut. On December 9, 1972 he married the love of his life Dawn Wendland. Curt worked at Fraser Paper Mill as a Converting Manager for 25 years, then for Chequamegon – Nicolet Forest as a Forest Protection Officer. After his retirement, he worked at Winter Woods in Glidden during the fall season. He was a member of the Butternut Knights of Columbus Council #7132 and the Butternut Fire Department and First Responders. Curt enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing, and trapping, making venison sausage, working in his apple orchard, telling stories of growing up with his grandfather and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Dawn of 51 years of marriage, with 4 proud children (2) daughters; Michele (Troy) Scherwinski of Butternut, Christine (Jim) Slaby of Arcadia WI, (2) sons; Curtis Walker Jr., Bryan (Becky) Walker of Butternut. (2) sisters: Debra (Thomas) Metzinger of Butternut, Cindy (Brice) Nealey of South Carolina, (1) brother: David Walker of Butternut, (8) grandchildren: Curtis (Naomi) Walker III, Morgan Walker, Jace and Kaycie Scherwinski, Lucas and Breeleigh Walker, Abby and Emma Slaby. Brothers and Sisters In-law: Connie and Steven Rose, Carrie and Donald Christain; Jerry and Bonnie Wendland, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death; by his father Gene Walker, his brother Gary Walker, two infant granddaughters; Molly Walker and Lindsey Scherwinski. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the kindness and professionalism he received as a patient at Marshfield Medical Center in Weston. A memorial service will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Butternut on Saturday February 3rd, 2024 at 11:00 am. Deacon Robert Schienebeck will officiate. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30am until the hour of service. A lunch will be served following the service. Interment will be held at a later date at St. Cecelia Cemetery in Butternut.
